Classification Groups
Car insurnace categorise cars into groups and are assigned from numbers 1-20 depending on the risk involved in insuring them - low number, low premium. Cars are assigned to these categories upon the consideration of a number of factors, including car security, performance, cost of parts and repair time. A typical group 1 car is a Fiat Panda or Vauxhall Corsa; low performance cars that are rarely stolen and are easy to repair. In contrast to this a typical group 20 car, is a Porsche 911, which has the direct opposite specifications. Most first-time buys fall in the categories between 1 and 5, although it is important to mention that some cars may reside in a higher group due to their larger engine, such as a Golf GTI, meaning that you might have to sacrifice a little more cash for that extra speed.
